Ballet class allows dancers to develop solid technique in terms of posture, balance, alignment, coordination and turnout. Students will learn to dance with grace and control whilst also demonstrating strength and flexibility. Lyrical requires dancing with flow and emotion. It is a very expressive dance discipline and allows the dancer to portray the lyrics in the music through dance.
Open to all students aged 4 and above.
Students primarily focus on jazz technique, encompassing the use of isolations, kicks, turns and jumps. Students also work on Acrobatic skills to increase strength and flexibility and develop tricks.
Commercial dance is also taught within this class and refers to the dance styles performed in pop artist’s live shows, music videos and movies. Dancers develop a sense of self-expression, energy and performance.
Open to all students aged 3 and above.
Tap allows dancers to develop rhythm and musicality. Dancers learn how to use their feet to create unique sounds, the steps often follow the irregular rhythm or harmony of the music, using the tapping of the footwork to create an added layer of percussion. LKD Tap students are invited to partake in an annual ‘Tapathon’ charity/world-record-attempt event.
Open to all existing LKD Ballet dancers of Grade 2 standard and above.
For those that wish to further develop and challenge their Ballet technique. Alongside non syllabus work, students work to enhance strength ready for demi pointe and then pointe shoes. LKD has also showcased 3 full length ballet performances to date, the main characters for which are auditioned for from within this class.
Junior and Inter students study Contemporary and work towards examinations within their Ballet class. Senior advanced students study Contemporary in a separate Contemporary class.
Learn and enhance Contemporary technique, drawing on key elements from practitioners such as Graham, Cunningham, and Limon. Students will develop an understanding of contract and release, fall and recovery and floor work.
Alongside technique, students will learn key choreographic principles. This creative freedom will see them develop movement material and learn to push boundaries. The class will be particularly beneficial to those intending to/already studying GCSE/A-Level dance and those wishing to pursue a career in dance.
Open to all existing LKD dancers already attending either a Ballet or Modern class.
This exciting new class will encompass a mix of body conditioning and strengthening exercises, pirouette exercises and jump and leap drills.
We are thrilled to be a Rosina Andrews Method affiliated studio and be offering our students the opportunity to advance their technique with Pirouette Surgery®️ and Leap Surgery®️ methods.
